Merry Monday #59

We had last week off but it is time for a new Merry Monday challenge, Lesley has another fantastic sketch for us this week. I ignored all the papers handy on my desk and went digging in my stash for something new and found this wonderful double-sided sheet.

I heat embossed the sentiment and coloured it with glitter pens and water colour pencils then used Spellbinders to cut image out as well as the frame around it. I added some texture to the strip across the bottom and finished with a button made with circle punches and added some twine.

Supplies: Cream and brown card stock, Designer paper - Bo Bunny, Spellbinders, circle punches, embossing folders, twine, Recollections gem.

Don't forget to stop by Lesley'sblog to see what she and the rest of the design team have created for this week’s challenge, join us and play along.

Cheers,
Nina

Playing Paradise #114

Good Morning and happy Friday, we have had a stunning week here in Victoria and spring is certainly showing us some beautiful colours.

We have a new Playing in Paradise challenge for you today, Linda is our hostess this week and our inspiration is to create a ‘SpringTime’ theme.

Before I get to the challenge and my card there is some news over at the Scrapbooker’s Paradise blog,  the Playing in Paradise Challenge is changing the format and challenges will now run for two weeks.

My term as a Designer is up and I have decided not to renew, I have enjoyed creating and sharing with you all each Friday. It has been wonderful to see what the Designers and challenge participants have created each week.

PPC #114

I remember when I was young we had a large field across from our house that my mom use to toss all the weeds she had pulled from her garden.  Bachelor buttons started in a small area of her garden but soon spread... everywhere.. and mom started treating them like weeds. It was not long before the field across the street was blooming with these pretty flower each spring.

To created the background I used distress inks to added an aged look, I then stamped the script with a background stamp and used a darker colour to ink the edges. I also inked up a portion of the flower stamp with Tombo markers to add to the background. I did the same with the button embellishments.

I inked up the bachelor button stamp with dark brown then used my markers to add some blue to the center. I love the watercolour look of this stamp.

I finished with the sentiment, embellishments and some twine.

PPC 113

I wanted a nice study tag so I dug into my recycle bin and pull out an All Bran bars box :). The tag has three layers, the center is cardboard with two pieces of water colour paper glued on either side with Mod Podge.

I used a brayer to lay down base colour then stamps the wildflowers. I then used distress ink to add the musical script.  I punched out three layer of circles two are cardboard and the third is watercolor paper. I heat embossed it with Frosted Glass embossing power to give it sparkle.

I finished with sentiment, and added the button with some twin, the last step was adding ribbon.

I struggled a bit with the card for this weeks challenge, the bottom layers came together fine but the rest threw me for a loop. I heat embossed the sentiment then added the explosions in gray. I finished with some twine and a glittery arrow.

Wax Paper Art

Happy Wednesday everyone, I was able to talk my sister Barb and sister-in law Judy into yet another family technique challenge. This time around we are using a video tutorial created for StampTV.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EfWkI3pM-OE

This technique uses wax paper and a Cuttlebug to create a resist like design.  I don't use my wax paper very much, in fact I don't have a clue when I even bought my roll but if I wanted to give it a guess it would be about 18 years ago... apparently it still works, at least when used for crafts :) The age of the wax paper is probably why the pattern is not as detailed as I would have liked.

I pulled out my craft sheet and our little travel iron, which also has not seen the light of day for many many years :). It is the perfect size for crafting, I got the raised eyebrow from my husband as I tend to get when items migrates to my craft area.

I used a mix of Memento Desert Sand and Antique Linen Distress ink to get the varied color, the detail was light but still visible. I made the second layer a little darker than the first.

I used mix of Rhubarb Stalk, Potter's Clay, Dandelion and Rich Cocoa added to the stamp to created the blend of colours for the tall wildflower image. I create some embellishments with a circle punch and fussy cut  flowers, I added some gems for a little bit of sparkle. I finished with a simple small sentiment in the corner.

Stop by Barb and Judy's blogs to see what projects they have created using this same technique. StampTV has many wonderful ideas as well.

Supplies: Natural Ivory and brown card stock, Stacy Stamps-Solid wildflower,  The Stamps of Life -

minis4circles, mini daisy, gems, misc punches, embossing folder, wax paper.

Cheers,
Nina

Happy Mother's Day

I have had this paper sitting on the end of my desk for weeks, I pulled it out of my stash and was determined to use it. Unfortunately it did not inspire my creativity until last night.

I paired the DP with a gray cardstock and rounded a couple of the edges. I stamped the sentiment and flowers in grey and added some pearls, I finished with some pretty sheer ribbon and a button.
Supplies: Natural white and grey card stock, Designer Paper Authentique, The Stamps of Life-all4moms, ribbon, pearls and button.

Nina

Playing In Paradise #111

Happy Friday everyone, it is time for a new Playing in Paradise challenge. We had a fabulous turnout last week, and who would not want to play along with a fantastic prize each and every week !!

Jessi is our hostess for PPC #111, and the challenge is Emboss Something. I have to admit this is a near and dear to my heart, I love my embossing folders, I add texture to my cards all the time. I even love pulling out my Versamark and doing a little heat embossing with my nice selection of embossing powders.

PPC#111

I am using the current sketch from Tuesday Morning Sketches as well.

Isn't this mushroom house adorable, need a card for a good friend who recently brought a house and moved. I added texture to the background layer and oval behind the mushroom with embossing folders.

When I was putting together my card I wanted something whimsical to match my paper so I printed off the mushroom clipart twice and fussy cut them out. I added some Glossy accents to the window and spots, lots of layers made the card a little bulky so I added a simple sentiment to the mushroom.

Supplies: Natural Ivory, Designer Paper - First Edition, ClipArt - Mushroom house, HOTP - Hi, embossing Folders, Glossy Accents, Spellbinders die cuts.

Fab Friday # 15

I was feeling crafty last night and so I made a couple of cards, this card is for the current Fab Friday Challenge.

This designer paper is so pretty, the base layer is the texture of fabric and although I did not get a good picture of it, the center panel has glitter on the little blue flowers.

I turned the sketch and used layers, I stamped the sentiment and added some pearls. I felt the card was missing something and added the tiny pearls to the flowers - (thank you Barb for your wise suggestion).

Supplies: Natural white, turquoise card stock, Designer Paper-Boho Chic, The Stamps of Life - birthday2celebrate.

Cheers,
Nina

Muse Card Challenge #11

Good Morning all - a quick post this morning before I head off to work. I did not craft as much as I would have liked this weekend, I was too busy enjoying the beautiful weather.  I did get a card done for the current Muse Challenge though.

I used this weeks current inspiration card as a sketch, I love the simple elegant style of the card created by Laurie Willison.

I used some layers for my card to blend the DP and card stock. I used a mix of punches and Spellbinders to get shapes, I finished with a heat embossed sentiment, pearls and twine.

Supplies: Natural white and brown card stock, Designer Paper – Dovecraft, The Alley Way Stamps - Jibber Jabber,  Spellbinder die cuts, twine, misc punches, pearls.

Cheers,
Nina

Merry Monday #56

I was recently treated to some new supplies that I absolutely adore. So I can’t help it if they just happen to be on the side of my desk to use.

So for the new Merry Monday challenge today, it is all about the DP :). Lesley has a fantastic sketch for us this week,  I made a mishap with the paper direction when I glued it so this sketch was turned upside down.

I inked the edges all the edges with Memento Rich Cocoa, then glued all the layers together. I used a Spellbinders die cut to get the sentiment form the DP and I finished with some twine.

Supplies: Natural white and brown card stock, Designer Paper – Dovecraft,  Spellbinder die cuts, twine.
