Soot Stamping

Anyone want to play with candles and flames? My sister in law Judy has sent a link for a new family technique challenge. For this challenge we will be trying soot stamping.

It took me a few of tries to get this right, a couple of things I learned. When you hold your glossy cardstock to far away from the flame it bubbles and only manages a  toasted marshmallow colour.

The second thing I figured out is that if you make a mistake and try it again, be sure to clean your stamp off or it will not lift a clear image the next time. Soot does not stick to soot very well.

When I  first took a look at this challenge I knew I was going to us this stamp and I love how it turned out. I originally wanted this to be a Halloween card but then I just left it looking like a vintage photo card.

Supplies: White and black card stock, Crafty Individuals - Negative Landscape.

Stop by Barb and Judy's blogs to see what projects they have created using this same technique.

Cheers,
Nina

  1. Hi Nina,

Your image is so cool and almost "ghostly" - and looks like a true photo negative. Very impressive.

I like how you put the edges on this, this is like one of those "little canvases" you told me some of our cards really are - as opposed to just a greeting card.
